Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Tell the children of Israel to take an offering for Me. From every man whose heart moves him [to give willingly] you shall take My offering. 3 This is the offering you are to receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue, purple, and scarlet fabric, fine twisted linen, goats’ hair, 5 rams’ skins dyed red, porpoise skins, acacia wood, 6 [olive] oil for lighting, balsam for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones and setting stones for the [priest’s] ephod and for the breastpiece. 8 Have them build a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them. 9 You shall construct it in accordance with everything that I am going to show you, as the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furniture.
Exodus 25:1-9 AMP
God speaks directly to Moses, on the Mount of SInai, providing clear instructions for the Israelites to follow so that a sanctuary, a holy place may be built for God to dwell amongst His people. With the tabernacle to be constructed as God instructs.
The beginning of this chapter, Exodus 25, shows God wished to test the heart of the Israelites as it pertained to giving thanks to Him, their Creator and protector. The Lord asked for things that signify His majesty as King of Kings and wanted them to give as they so desired. Looking back we can see that for God to ask for such that means that even as the Israelites escaped slavery in Egypt, they were blessed in abundance.
Lord, I thank you for all that I have, for good health, for my wonderful family and for a great home that stands in your name Holy One. Grant me the presence of mind to be thankful for all things at all times for it is by Your Grace that I have breath in my lungs. In Jesus Name. Amen.
